Overview:
The Data Architect is responsible for developing information
management strategies, assessing the flow of data, including how it is
processed and stored. Will design effective and efficient processes for
managing the data flow.
Responsibilities:
- Assumes direct responsibility for the design, development
and validation of our Enterprise Data Model ensuring accurate, consistent and
comprehensive information is securely available to associates across multiple
business areas.
- Establishes data/information architectural standards, a
process for maintaining the standards and a process of monitoring compliance to
those standards across the enterprise.
- Interacts directly with IT business stakeholders to define
structure, attributes and nomenclature of data elements, and applies accepted
data content standards to technology projects.
- Operates across multiple projects simultaneously and assumes
responsibility for the appropriate data/information architecture, design and
quality. Performs impact, system, and data analysis based on business
requirements.
- Supports the development of information architectures and
technology validation strategies leveraging industry standard best practices
- Builds and maintains enterprise data model, associated
meta-model, ontologies and taxonomies, which will be used to guide software
development.
- Develops and maintains the metadata management repository
and data lineage for source data, intermediate data and target repositories
including common information models that will be directly used by business
power users
- Develops, maintains and shares data/information
architectural documentation on all data-related technology patterns.
- Leverages and applies direct experience in business
analysis, data acquisition, data analysis/design, Database Management System
optimization, archiving and recovery strategy, data load optimization,
security, and data entitlements.
- Serves as a technology advocate throughout the IT organization
to promote the effective use of the data/information architecture to meet
business needs and to build sustained competitive advantage for the enterprise.
- Forms, maintains and strengthens relationships with key
external technology suppliers to prioritize, evaluate and accelerate the
adoption of promising new technologies with high business value.
- Provides support for existing systems and processes for
standard and custom solutions.
- Uses and promotes established Software Development Life
Cycle (SDLC) standards, QA and change control procedures.
- Partners with Project Manager/Project Leader on all
assignments.
- Maintains and follows all company standards.
- Participates in IT technical design and development meetings
to evaluate and recommend optimal solutions designed for high levels of data
quality, integrity, performance, availability and reliability.
- Provides weekly status updates based on projects and
maintains weekly time sheets.
- Participates in special projects and performs additional
duties as required.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems,
or other related field, or 5 years equivalent work experience required. Advanced
Degree preferred.
- Strong, current experience designing, developing and tuning
complex, large (TB) database management systems in support of operational
reporting, decision support, complex data analysis and system integration
- Extensive experience working with and tuning Microsoft SQL
Server or other similar relational database management systems. Proficient in
developing SQL-based programs and scripts as well as stored procedures.
- Must have experience leading, mentoring and directing the
work of others in data modeling, database design (multi-dimensional and data
warehouse), data integration and ETL along with experience in logical and
physical data architecture design using database modeling tools.
- Requires an understanding of regulatory considerations as it
relates to database design and security, such as PCI compliance, consumer
privacy, HIPAA and SOX, and designs data/information architecture that adheres
to these regulations.
- Ability to integrate with custom and third party packaged
applications required.
- Good project management skills required along with excellent
organizational and time management skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation
skills required.
- Proficient in Microsoft Project, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and
Visio.
- Occasional travel as required to other company facilities.
- Supply chain industry experience preferred.
